Silverpoint & Shellacked Paper: Drawing in New & Old Ways
Silverpoint & Shellacked Paper: Drawing in New & Old Ways
March 8, 2024 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Richeson School of Art & Gallery, 557 Marcella St, Kimberly, WI 54136, USA
- Instructor: Will Dickinson
- Date: Friday, March 8
- Time: 12P-4P
- Fee: $75
- Level: Beginner +
Try your hand at both a drawing medium of the Old Masters and a new way of using colored pencils. Classically trained artist, Will Dickinson will lead students in the practice of using silverpoint to create an image. A favored medium of Albrecht Durer and Leonardo da Vinci, silverpoint is the ancestor of the modern graphite pencil. In this class, Dickinson will also introduce students to using colored pencils on shellacked paper. This unusual process allows modern artists to achieve ancient effects like the red clay drawings of Renaissance artists. All supplies included.
Will Dickinson was educated at the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences and the Glasgow School of Art majoring in Fine Arts and Anthropology. Subsequently, he studied figurative drawing in Philadelphia. His art was featured at various group shows and solo exhibitions in New York City, Washington D.C., and Florence, Assisi (Italy).

Richeson School of Art & Gallery, 557 Marcella St, Kimberly, WI 54136, USA
- Instructor: Steve Wysocki
- Date: Thursday, March 14
- Time: 9:30A-4:30P

Join Stephen Wysocki as he guides students through creating the painting Interested Tom in oil paint. Students will explore the process of painting with oils by studying color mixing, paint application, and values, without the stress of determining the painting composition. Most students will finish the painting by the end of class.
A seasoned artist, Stephen Wysocki utilizes the bold application of color to convey movement and excitement in his pieces. “I am always looking to create an atmosphere in my work. I believe color can stand alone to convey a mood in a piece of work. I like to explore an image by playing with the many warm and cool tones.”
This class includes all oil painting materials; however, if you like to use an apron or gloves, please bring them with you as they will not be provided. There will be a break for lunch.
