Whether it’s a favorite furry friend or an elusive creature in thewild, animals are both engaging and challenging as a subject matter. In thisclass, pastel artist Darcy Doiel will share techniques for capturing theappearance and personalities of animals. From building a solid foundation toworking with tricky textures like feathers and fur students will leave classwith an understanding of how to work with this fun subject and the confidenceto tackle greater animal challenges. Students may work from references providedby the instructor or bring in printed images of their own to use as theirsubject matter. All materials are provided. There will be a break for lunch.

This class highlights the pros and cons of using a photograph as areference. It will also walk students through a painting of their choice inoils. The photograph can be a useful tool in the right hands or a hindrance tothe untrained eye. In this class students will learn what makes a usefulphotograph for a reference and what pitfalls come with the use of a photo. Wewill learn to break down photographs and learn to edit with an artistic licensethe elements in our photos. (Students are encouraged to bring 15-20 highresolution photographs they have taken either printed or on a laptop/tablet butNOT on their phone!) All supplies are included. There will be a break forlunch.

Join us for WatercolorWednesdays with Debo! On the last Wednesday of each month, Greenville artistDeborah Vandenbloomer (or Debo to friends) will offer tips and techniques toinspire watercolor inspiration and success. Debo will start each session with amini watercolor lesson. Students can then explore the lesson, work on their ownprojects among other watercolor enthusiasts, or receive some one-on-oneguidance from Debo. Join Stephen Wysocki as he guides students through creating the painting Engine in oil paint. Students will explore the process of painting with oils through studying color mixing, paint application and values, without the stress of determining the painting composition. Most students will finish the painting by the end of class.

A seasoned artist, Stephen Wysocki utilizes the bold application of color to convey movement and excitement in his pieces. “I am always looking to create an atmosphere in my work. I believe color can stand alone to convey a mood in a piece of work. Ilike to explore an image by playing with the many warm and cool tones.”

This class includes all oil painting materials; however, if you like to use an apron or gloves, please bring them with you as they will not be provided.  There will be a break for lunch.
