Fond du Lac artist Mel Kolstad is one of Richeson School of Art’s most popular instructors – and for good reason! Her classes are excellent opportunities to create art using new techniques and fresh ideas, and her latest class, Forest Floor Collage is no exception. Students will explore the medium of collage through nature inspired materials and techniques. Using materials such as paper, fiber, and wood, students will create multiple richly layered collages inspired by the forest floor. All materials provided.

Three classes in one! Popular Richeson instructor Nathan Brandner is combining his three beginning drawing classes in this one day intensive. This workshop delves into the fundamental principles every artist should have in their toolbox. Part one will be spent on understanding the massive importance of the line. In part two participants will explore values and how our perception of light informs our drawings. Part three will focus on simplifying the ideas of perspective and using them to strengthen one’s drawings. This beginner course is for the artist looking for a sound basis for which to begin the process of drawing. All materials included. There will be a break for lunch.

Painting outside in the winter?? Yes! Painting snow can be challenging but is a beautiful subject matter. In this class students will explore how to paint beautiful radiant snow from direct observation. Time will be spent both learning indoors and outdoors. Creating art outdoors in winter weather comes with a particular set of challenges but students in this class will have plenty of opportunities to retreat to the warmth of the studio between painting sessions. All materials are provided but plein air artists who already have plein air easels are welcome to bring their own supplies. Warm beverages will be provided, and there will be a break for lunch.

Join Stephen Wysocki as he guides students through creating his painting Swing Bridge in oil paint. Students will explore the process of painting with oils through studying color mixing, paint application and values, without the stress of determining the painting composition. Most students will finish the painting by the end of class.
A seasoned artist, Stephen Wysocki utilizes the bold application of color to convey movement and excitement in his pieces. “I am always looking to create an atmosphere in my work. I believe color can stand alone to convey a mood in a piece of work. I like to explore an image by playing with the many warm and cool tones.”
This class includes all oil painting materials; however, if you like to use an apron or gloves, please bring them with you as they will not be provided. There will be a break for lunch.

Join us for an evening session of book art and printmaking in our studio every final Thursday of the month! This drop-in event is designed for book artists and binders, print artists, and creative people who are interested in learning more about the book arts and printmaking with the intent of coming together for a casual evening of instruction and mutual inspiration. Bring your latest project, take advantage of our studio printing press and enjoy the company of other artists.
During the March Artist Book & Print Night, we will begin the evening with Neenah artist and Richeson Gallery Manager, Emily Runnerstrom. Emily will teach the double pamphlet stitch with cover book structure. This is a simple yet elegant book structure that comes together quickly. Emily will teach this lesson at the beginning of the evening after which participants are welcome to explore the lesson taught or work on their own projects.
