Plein Air Painting

Learning How to Learn 2.0

November 1-3, 9:30a – 4p

Instructor: Deke Palecek

Cost: $265

It’s time to develop painting habits that work for you!

Instructor Deke (D.K.) Palecek will discuss all aspects of plein air painting; how plein air differs from studio painting, how to design the composition, how different approaches can be used to begin a painting, how to develop a painting and more. Students will learn the value of timing and strategy of painting outdoors, as well as the ins and outs of competition.

The workshop will begin by identifying where each student is today through a review of current paintings. From there, students will identify where they want to go by identifying artists and paintings they admire. “It is important to visualize where you as an artist want to go and to identify the style you are currently drawn to. YOUR style comes from pursuing that general style, and adjusting it to with the finer details that inspire you.”

Finally, Palecek will identify habits that are needed to develop as an artist to achieve the desired results in their finished paintings. Habits like: how to hold your brush, how much paint to mix, how using cue cards and visuals can remind you of those habits you are changing, stepping back, and squinting. Students will be learning how to get from where they are to where they want to be.
