Make Your Mark!

Wednesday, July 10 • 10am-12pm

Participants in this workshop will learn how to make ink using ingredients from nature. They will then design and make drawing tools using unexpected materials like rubber bands and popsicle sticks to explore different ways of creating texture and patterns with their new art supplies. This is a messy class, so participants should dress accordingly.

Cut Paper Botanical Collages

Celebrate Nature! Students will learn how to break an image down into basic shapes and then cut those shapes from colorful hand painted papers. They will then assemble those shapes into an original artwork inspired by scientific botanical studies.

Fantastic Flexagons!

Flexagons are a fun bit of paper engineering! Kind of like a paper fidget spinner, participants will paint on watercolor paper and then use their painted paper to craft an original and unusual, playful work of art.

My Favorite Place Book

Is it a book? Is it a building? It’s both! Using a simple pop-up book structure, workshop participants will make a book that when opened up resembles a four room house that they can fill with images of their favorite places!

One Page Books

With only a few folds and strategic cuts, did you know that a book can be made from one piece of paper? Students in this workshop will learn how to make different books from a single sheet of paper. They will then fill in the pages with their own artwork.

Secret Shoe Box Worlds

Dioramas are a fun way to explore space and depth in art. Using some simple materials and techniques, workshop participants will make a special secret environment hidden in a shoe box!

Simple Suminagashi

Thursday, August 8 • 1pm-2pm

The Japanese paper marbling art of suminagashi is a fun way of making decorative papers!  Workshop participants will explore this special marbleizing technique that creates rings and ripples and will take home several pieces of decorated paper to use in further art explorations!

Art Safari!

Friday, August 9 • 10am-11am

Young artists will go on an art safari in the Richeson School of Art & Gallery art collection with their adult chaperone. Participants will make their own drawings inspired by the art in the galleries and then will bind their drawings into a book to take home.

Design Your Own Flag!

Tuesday, August 13 • 2pm-4pm

If you were royalty, what would your flag look like? Workshop participants will learn about coats of arms and other flag symbolism in order to design their own flag that they will then paint onto a piece of fabric to fly over their kingdom!
