Urban Sketching – Downtown Appleton

Date: Saturday, September 28th
Time: 9A-12P
Fee: $70
Level: Beginner +

Urban sketching is the practice of drawing on site, quickly capturing the environment and atmosphere
of a place. This is a useful practice for travelers who wish to visually record their journeys, artists
making studies for later studio work, and anyone who wants to capture a moment in time. Students
will learn sketching techniques to encourage efficient, accurate, and expressive mark-making using a
variety of materials. This class will be offsite during the Appleton Downtown Farm Market, and
students will receive an urban sketching kit as part of the class fees.

Your instructor, Will Dickinson, was educated at the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and
Sciences and the Glasgow School of Art majoring in Fine Arts and Anthropology. Subsequently, he
studied figurative drawing in Philadelphia. His art was featured at various group shows and solo
exhibitions in New York City, Washington D.C., and Florence, Assisi (Italy).
