Artist Statement:
Why High Heels?
My sculpting was stymied. I had an intense urge and desire to carve. I just couldn’t think of what to carve. Very much like writer’s block or a painter staring at a blank canvas. This lasted for months.
Up to this time, I had carved mostly feminine torsos. I saw a beautiful elegant pair of off-white designer high heels. Instantly my inner voice asked. “Could I carve them?” My stone included a piece of white Colorado alabaster just about the same size. I carved White Tiger and the Designer High Heel series began.
Many have asked, as I have, why?
Synchronicity, subconscious, creativity. Yes, yes and yes?
This much I do know. They have beauty and feminine form, curves and sensuality, and are a fascinating sculpting challenge.
