In this course, students will go over the fundamentals of working with pastel to create bold and colorful landscapes. Demonstrations, discussions, and guided practice will address pastel applications in both wet and dry forms to create quick notations of the natural world. In the morning, participants will practice creating thumbnail sketches and compositional studies from photos. In the afternoon, students will spread out around the grounds at Richeson School of Art in a spot of their choosing to work “en plein air” – directly from life outdoors. For those new to plein air or pastel, this course aims to provide a foundational understanding in material techniques and strategic approaches to interpret the essence of a scene..
All supplies are included.
