The “Value” of Plein Air Painting

June 13, 14, 15  •  9:30 – 4:00

Instructor: Sherri Thomas

Cost: $255.00 (some materials included)

Workshop Description:

“Value does all the work and color gets all the credit”. We all love color but correct values are critical to make your painting read accurately. Value is the relative lightness or darkness of a color and it’s the key to creating paintings with depth and atmosphere. It defines the light, shadow and form of an image and the best place to learn is painting outside.

Throughout the three days, you will paint outside on small to medium size panels. Learn through daily demonstrations, individual critiques, and instruction. This is a fun, challenging workshop where you will paint one to two paintings/sketches each day using a limited pallet of oil colors. Demonstrations will be in oil but artists working in watercolor, acrylics, or pastel are welcome if they are confident in their media. This workshop is for beginners to experienced painters. There’s always something new to learn!

In cases of lightening or inclement weather, we will paint in the Richeson studio.
